Description:
This study demonstrates that all of the "rod" pictures on Jose Escamilla's www.roswellrod.com site show a "rod" length-to-speed correlation that is consistent with the motion blur pattern created by a flying insect, if the insect is videographed with a CCD camera using either 1/60 or 1/100 second exposures. The site also presents pictures of motion-blurred insects showing this same "rod-like" length-to-speed pattern, and showing that flapping insect wings can duplicate undulating or sinusoidal "rod" wing patterns when shot at these slow shutter speeds. Conclusion: Escamilla's "rods" are motion-blurred flying insects.
