In response to the publics need to be seen to be doing something about the phenomena, Project Blue Book was established in . Run by the US Airforce, the purpose being to collect and analyse UFO sightings, accepting reports from the public at large. Judging from the end result of many of these investigations, the aim of Bluebook was to discredit or play down sightings, generally ignoring those sightings which could not be given normal explanations.
