Hopkins, Jacobs and Westrum's (1992) assertion that 3.7 million Americans are suffering from "UFO abduction syndrome" has been criticized for methodological and logical deficiencies (Stires, 1993; Klass, 1993; Hall, Rodeghier & Johnson, 1993; Dawes and Mulford, 1993). In an attempt to remedy these deficiencies, my research methods class at Rutgers University in Camden undertook to replicate Hopkins, Jacobs and Westrum's survey.

A COLLECTION OF EVIDENCE DOCUMENTING JUST A FEW OF THE REPEATED EXPERIENCES IVE HAD.WHATS MOST PUZZLING ABOUT MY STORY IS THAT I HAD NO PRIOR EXPERIENCES,NOR INTEREST IN THE SUBJECT UNTILL AGE 34 EVEN STRANGER IS THAT IT WAS IN JULY OF 2006 WHEN I FIRST SAW WHAT I KNOW WAS A U.F.O.,FOR ABOUT 16 MONTHS AFTER I HAD COUNTLESS EXPERIENCES.IT WAS A DIFFICULT PERIOD OF MY LIFE,WICH HAS LEFT ME NOW WITH A MILLION QUESTIONS I MAY NEVER FIND THE ANSWEAR FOR.IT TOOK SOME TIME BEFORE I REALIZED THAT TO SURVIVE THIS WITH MY INTEGRITY AND RESPECT FROM MY PEERS INTACT I HAD TO KEEP EVERYTHING TO MYSELF WHILE TRYING TO GET THE BEST VIDEO/PHOTO EVIDENCE POSSIBLE IF I ACCOMPLISHED THAT IT WOULD SPEAK FOR ME.

It is always going to be difficult to come out with a unified theory for the UFO experiences due to the variability of the data. We have full alien contact and abductions, to lights in the sky and other more surreal events, each with a myriad of different explanations. Here is a selection of theories, which are more geared to explaining different aspects of the phenomena loosely classified as UFO experiences. The lines between some of these theories may be a little blurred but for sake of simplicity they have been split into a number of sections.
