I had always presumed that past lives could only be explained or understood, as an adult, regressing to adult past lives.
I've recently read a book on how children can relate past lives, as children, having left (for the most part) adult bodies, and have been reborn again.
One of the main theories in the book is that current manifestations of fear, phobias, and physical problems, can be traced and explained through past life regression. In children, it is even easier to do because they are not yet jaded with years of explaining things away in 'normal' terms. Natural and spontaneous behaviour that can mean memory of a past life.
For instance, if a child has a fear of fires, under regression this could be explained as that child having previously died in a fire. Regression will also give age-appropriate descriptions to the person in the past life, and describe in detail their lives, situations, and deaths. Often when lives are suddenly and without warning, there are residual effects felt in the next life, hence the maladies and fears. Upon regression, the symptoms disappear once the reason for the death is uncovered. The current manifestation, whether it be a rash, or fear, is almost like a clue left to be carried on until it is understood and put to rest in the next life.
Also in the book is mentioned in particular East Indian culture, where past lives are accepted as normal. Research and documentation on children who have had told of familiar places, people, landmarks etc., have often proved to be accurate. And the child has had no current life relationship whatsoever with this knowledge. Through careful analysis, some very incredible stories emerge of very young children talking about their 'other parents' in a certain town, living in a type of dwelling, near a lake; the neighbours, family birthdays, etc. The detail relating between the current and past life is really incredible to read about.
For anybody like me who had never before considered a connection of past lives with children, I highly recommend reading:
Children's Past Lives- How Past Life Memories Affect Your Child, by Carol Bowman, Bantum Books.
