http://web.orange.co.uk/article/quirkies/Giant_hole_opens_up_behind_house

A Chinese family had to leave their home after a giant sinkhole suddenly opened up in their backyard overnight.

The hole is nearly 70ft wide and nobody has so far even been able to measure how deep it is.

Zhang Fengrong, 58, of Leshan, Sichuan province, said he suddenly heard a roaring sound at 2am.

He stepped outside and was amazed to see the giant hole opening up, and getting closer and closer to his house.

To read the rest of the article and see a photo of this sink hole, go to the link. It's Awesome! Sort of reminds me of the "Mel's Hole" story from somewhere in the U.S. If you don't know the story, go to Google; you'll find Mel's Hole references there.

There have been MANY sink holes opening up, in the past decade, all over the world. And lakes draining dry, overnight!

Did any of you see the made-for-TV (remake of the series) movie of "The Prisoner" that was shown last year? The "Town" kept getting sink holes, because the right person wasn't "believing" in the viability of the "town" anymore.

It kind of reminds me of that TV movie.

In case any of you are interested, it's really GOOD!

Yeah it is pretty weird considering the hole appears to be not cause of any human activity.

How fast can sinkholes like that form? Most likely, it has been forming for a long time and just "gave way" overnight. However, the ground in that area may have been loose for a while until the incident itself.

Some of these holes are caused by deep mines and underground rivers. Here in my state the deep mines riddle these mountains and some are half mile deep. When they break the surface they can cause very deep holes. Some have appeared in the middle of towns and are quite large.

One large river disappeared in a farmers meadow and then reappeared over a mile away. China is also riddled with deep mines.
